Lunches with Leah ~Kristi Matthews
A bend in the road is not the end of the road... unless you fail to make the turn.

I met Kristi a couple months back. We were at a Chamber of Commerce meet and greet and we were just kinda drawn to one another. Since then, we have met up a couple of times, so when I asked if she’d like to be in my Lunches with Leah series she said hell yeah!

Starbucks— extended lunch!

Starbucks— extended lunch!

Originally we planned on a beach day for our interview because, well, it’s the BEACH and the main reason we are both here on the emerald coast. Actually it’s probably the main reason most of us are here on the emerald coast as y’all will see as these interviews progress.

We settled on Thai food. A little restaurant in the corner of a strip mall in Miramar Beach. Royal Orchid was the perfect place to sit and chat, for like 2 hours (which we carried over to Starbucks).

Kristi moved to the emerald coast in July of 2016 from Dallas, Texas. Not knowing a soul, she came for the beach and being a single Mom, she came for a better life for her and her two kids. In Dallas she was a closer for a lawyer and it was only natural to do that here, so she got a job with a lawyer as a closer and now she’s settled in with Setco Services working in marketing and business development for them. And yes, she still does closings.

Setco Services is a title company. What’s a title company you may ask? Well, I’ll go ahead and tell you. A title company makes sure that the title to a piece of real estate is legitimate and then issues title insurance for that property. Title insurance protects the lender and/or owner against lawsuits or claims against the property that result from disputes over the title.

Kristi is a fighter. She’s struggled for sure with being a single mom, with self doubt and her story is not an easy one to tell but with her beautiful eyes she shared it with me. Eventually she wants to speak to women as way of giving back. To let other women struggling know that it’s ok and it will work out. To trust the process and find those magical moments. As an adopted child she has a big heart for children and is empathetic to their plight. With that she has a charity that is near and dear to her heart. Venture.org They are there to help the human trafficked, the enslaved, the impoverished, the ones so easily forgotten about. For the past three years Kristi has raised money by running. Each year she has raised more money and in turn, more awareness. Plus, she stays fit by running!

If you need a title company give Setco in Miramar Beach a try! And follow the link to see what Venture is all about.
